Prevention Program

Prevention is a general term that literally means “to keep something from happening”.
Prevention at RHCC began in the early 1990's. It started out as one curriculum program in Robeson County. It is currently a six curriculum program that offers services to youth in Robeson, Scotland, Bladen and Columbus Counties. The program currently employs one Director of Prevention and five Prevention Specialist.
Curriculums Offered
Too Good for Drugs (Ages 5-12)
School based prevention program proven to reduce the intention to use alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs in elementary, middle and high school students.
Too Good for Violence (Ages 5-12)
School based violence prevention/character education program that improves student behavior and minimizes aggression.
Project Toward No Drug Abuse (TND) (Ages 14-18)
Prevention program for high school youth designed to help students develop self-control and communication skills, acquire resources that help them resist drug use, improve decision making strategies, and develop the motivation to not use drugs.
Strengthening Families
This voluntary program is a three skills training course: parenting, children's life skills and family skills that is widely delivered by schools, faith communities and community-alliances for general populations.
Project Alert (Ages 11-14)
School based prevention program for middle or junior high students that focuses on alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use. Seeks to prevent adolescent nonusers from experimenting with these drugs.
All-Stars (Ages 11-14)
Program designed to prevent alcohol and drug use and violence among early middle school aged youth. All-Stars concentrates on building five qualities that research says will decrease young peoples chances of being involved in these behaviors. These qualities include, reinforcing beliefs that risky behaviors are not normal, cultivating the belief that risky behaviors do not fit with youth's personal ideals, create voluntary, personal, and public commitments to not participate in risky behaviors, strengthen relationships between the young person and positive institutions and to help parents to listen to their children, communicate clear no-use expectations about alcohol and other drugs.
